Teen Entrepreneurs
The Skills Leading To Success

Teen Entrepreneurs. There are more and more of them learning what it takes to earn real money.

Newspaper articles frequently tout the success of teens and young people who have started a niche business. In my volunteer work with teens, I am always paying attention to their ideas. They have lots.

There is no shortage of ideas emanating from them. It's energizing! Their energy is endless.

With all their ideas, why aren't there thousands of teen entrepreneurs?

There are, we just don't see or hear about them. Most of them are not making a big splash in the marketplace.

They're under the radar; working part time after school/weekends or during the summer. They're in stores, restaurants, bedrooms on their computers and in the family garage tinkering.

It is from these experiences, and, for a lucky few, an exposure to Jr. Achievement , that future entrepreneurs of America are created.

Teen Entrepreneurs Win Big

NO WHERE will teenagers and young people find a better opportunity to understand entrepreneurship and obtain the skills needed to start their own business, understand "the basic elements of business' and the "role business play in a country's success fabric" than taking advantage of what follows!

Online Teen Entrepreneur Opportunities

I know dedicated students who have earned significant money for college and beyond by building a Web business using the proven methodology of Site Build It who are now in business online.

But it is not easy nor fast. However, it's simple when following the right methodology provided by Site Build It.

Teenagers and young people work hard.

They are determined to fit in all their activities but they have a certain sense about what the future could hold by developing an online business.

They have stuck with it and have a bright future as an entrepreneur.

They are quick minded and tend to make solid decisions.

They educated themselves and selected the best route for them to earn success.

Teen Entrepreneurs want to be their own Boss

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation commissioned Harris Interactive to conduct a survey of 2,438 U.S. young people ages 8 to 21 about entrepreneurship.

The Results

  • Four in 10 young people have or would like to start their own business someday. But nearly as many did not close the door to entrepreneurship--37% said they were just unsure about it.
  • Those who want to have their own business say their top reasons are to use their skills and abilities (92 %), build something for their future (89%), be their own boss (87%), see their ideas realized (81%) and earn lots of money (85%).
  • Some 37% of young people want to invent something if given the opportunity.
  • Overall, 63% of the 8 to 21 year-olds agree that, if they work hard, they have the ability to successfully start their own business.
  • Nearly 59% of the 8 to 21 year-olds know someone who has started his or her own business.
This gives a good indication that teen entrepreneurs are out there...and are successful.

Teen Entrepreneurial Tips

For those would-be teen entrepreneurs, the following advise and support is given:

  • Remember everyone is normal.

Each of us has one or more disadvantages in our life.

Maybe it's our home-life, being broke, being a poor student, lack of social skills, physical or mental problems, etc., etc., etc.

With effort, teens must try to overcome these...and many do so.

If you visit famous entrerepreneurs you'll see example after example of people who demonstrated, by their actions...their success.

  • Do what you like to do.

If you're going to be involved in hard work, why not do it with something you like to do? What are your interests? Can you work with friend(s)?

  • Is there a niche that needs to be filled? This is another way of accessing the need in the marketplace.
  • Teen Entrepreneur Tips

  • Do some market research. For instance, what you want to do, is it for other teens, for 18 to 25 year olds, for hunters, for extreme sport fans, for housewives, for retired folks, to sell "anything" online, etc.

Teen entrepreneurs do research on Google.

For instance, place in the subject line, teen hunters, or retired hunters. Play around with it. You can find out nearly anything on the Web!

    Use any subject you like.

  • Write down a plan of action. This doesn't have to be a multi-page formal document.

How about just putting to paper a listing of all the things you can think of that will get your idea off-the-ground.

Bounce this list off your parents and others to get their reaction and guidance.

Up front prep increases your chance of success.

  • Let your business idea grow.

Just go slow, putting it together one-step-at-a-time. Execute!

  • How much will this venture cost?

Do you need money? How much? (Remember, to start small.)

    Make a budget plan.

Change it when necessary, It's just a plan. At least you'll get an idea of what's involved from the financial side of things.

Consider a partnership with others for advise and funding.

  • Keep your costs down!

Try to get loaned items. Even old equipment is better than none. Ask others for everything! Don't be shy!

Remind yourself that you are a teen entrepreneur and that you'll show them you can do it!

  • Market yourself, first.

Think of the skills and abilities you bring to your venture.

Energy is one. Insight and determination is another.

Selling others on you first is a great sign you'll be successful in marketing your business.

  • Make time to execute your plan.

Balance school work, social stuff and work on your business plan.

Time can get away from you.

Make a list of things you need to do at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day. Plan for tomorrow's activities.

Avoid being so busy that you can't get anything done...it happens.

  • And most of all, Stay with your vision; your dream; your plan.

Being a teen entrepreneur is hard work. Being an entrepreneur at any age is hard (or else everyone would be doing it)!

The Internet is a real source of Wealth

We are continually reminded of the success stories of young adults who became wealthy (at least by normal people standards) using the Internet with Facebook links.

The Internet is and will continue to be a major source of American business growth in the future.

Parents must realize that their child's searching the Internet could lead to their financial future.

From pocket money to real money, the future is now!
